Home and Away reveals who could save Cash Newman in season return story

 Will his innocence be established?

Home and Away's Abigail Fowler could be Cash Newman's saviour as he faces a possible prison sentence in a new storyline.

The popular soap aired its big season return episode in Australia on Monday (January 13) – and things weren't looking good for Cash as he came under suspicion over a sinister crime.

When the show finished up for the year last November, Cash's love rival Tim Russell was brutally attacked during a trip away with his girlfriend Eden Fowler and the rest of Lyrik.

Cash was found with blood on his hands at the scene of the crime. As he'd spent weeks struggling to accept Eden's new romance, leading to some erratic behaviour, he was the most likely suspect in the mystery.

In Monday's episode, new detective Mark Townsend took on the case and made it very clear that he didn't trust Cash.

Cash tried to protest his innocence and warned that the real culprit was still out there, potentially with a plan to target Eden next. Sadly, with the evidence against him looking so damning, nobody was in a hurry to listen to Cash.

Upcoming scenes see Cash's situation get worse as he's arrested and hauled down to the police station for formal questioning.

Cash believes that the real attacker was Nerida Mullins, a former client who developed an unhealthy obsession with Tim after hiring him as a counsellor.

With few others listening to Cash, Abigail steps in to speak to Nerida in the hope of coaxing a confession from her. Will her plan work, or is she putting herself in danger?

Nicholas Cartwright, who plays Cash, recently told TV Week magazine: "The big public arrest, where everyone can see him, is just more shame piled upon him. He knows how he looks to everyone.

"He knows he made mistakes and looks a bit chaotic. It's an embarrassment, but he has to keep going in order to keep Eden safe."

Home and Away airs these scenes this week in Australia, while fans in the UK will have to wait until March.
