Home and Away confirms proposal doubts in Tane Parata story

Has he made a big mistake?

Home and Away's Tane Parata could face fresh heartbreak after popping the question to Harper Matheson.

The parents-to-be continue to face an uncertain future on Australian screens this week, despite Tane's attempts to provide clarity over where they stand.

Viewers know that Tane and Harper are expecting a baby boy together after a one-night stand last year.

Although the pair are committed to co-parenting together, figuring out whether they want to pursue a romantic future has been much trickier.

In last week's episodes on Australia's Channel 7, Harper confided in her sister Dana about how she still felt frustrated over Tane's apparent lack of interest in their relationship.

She told Dana: "I feel so stupid. After everything that happened, I thought things would be different. When he said he wanted to talk about our future, I thought he meant us as a couple, not as parents.

"I really thought that our relationship had turned a corner, but now it's just back to living arrangements and practicalities."

Dana intervened by warning Tane how Harper was feeling, so he responded by spontaneously proposing to Harper.

In follow-on scenes this week, Harper says 'yes' and the couple officially announce their engagement.

The news sparks a mixed response, though, with Dana and Mackenzie Booth among the Summer Bay locals who seem taken aback by the sudden change in Tane's behaviour.

Aussie magazine TV Week has also revealed that Harper will quickly be hit with her own doubts in the aftermath.

Can Harper and Tane work this through, or will Harper back out of plans for a wedding and leave Tane crushed?

Home and Away fans in the UK will see these scenes on Channel 5 in March.
