90s TV legend gives major health update from hospital bed..

Home and Away icon Lynne McGranger shared an update following a major operation at the end of August.

The actress, who is 71, is best known for her role as Irene Roberts in the Australian soap opera.

Recently, the star updated her Instagram with a picture of her in a hospital bed. Lynne explains in the caption that she’s now in recovery after having her overactive thyroid removed.

According to the NHS website, an overactive thyroid occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much of the thyroid hormones.

It’s a gland in the neck and produces hormones that impact body temperature and heart rate. If someone has too much of these hormones, symptoms develop that include mood swings, difficulty sleeping and weight loss.

In the message alongside her picture, Lynne wrote: ‘Less than a week ago my toxic overactive thyroid and I parted ways. It was a long time coming- we were incompatible and quite frankly I was exhausted.

‘I want to thank all the amazing people at the Mater Hospital North Sydney for making this giant life step so much easier than it might have been- The nurses, doctors, specialists, anaesthetists, the admin staff (the lady who greeted me on arrival, the lady who bid me farewell….) ….. with special mention to Prof Sidhu, Dr Michael Morris, Annie, Anna, Karen and Kenny (sorry about the vom).

‘Could not recommend The Mater more highly- what an exceptional example of health care done right! I’m healing well and so far I don’t miss that dirty thyroid one bit! Stay tuned for Scar spam.’

As expected, the comments section on Lynne’s post was full of kind messages from industry stars and fans, all wishing her a speedy recovery.

Last year, Lynne was among many cast members celebrating Home and Away’s 35th anniversary.

The star, who arrived as Irene in 1993, said to us at the time: ‘What do I love about being on the show? Absolutely everything! All the wonderful people I’ve met over the years, all the wonderful experiences. Happy birthday Home and Away!’
