Home and Away newcomer Perri makes debut in Tane story

Cantona Stewart takes on the role.

Home and Away's newest character Perri Hayes makes his first appearance on UK screens next week.

Surviving Summer actor Cantona Stewart has been cast in the role of Perri, who'll appear on the show for an extended guest role over the next few months.

Perri's arrival comes as Tane Parata's new youth programme finally gets under way at the Surf Club.

Tane has come up with the idea of teaching fitness and self-defence classes to disadvantaged young people, hoping that he can make a positive difference as their mentor.

Harper Matheson continues to help Tane with the project, trying her best to ignore her growing feelings for him.

When Tane meets the participants for the first time, it's clear that it won't be easy to keep them all in line.

One of the young men proves particularly difficult by making inappropriate comments to Harper and starting a fight with a fellow participant.

As Tane and Harper try their best to break up the conflict, Harper is hit with an accidental fist to the face.

Tane starts to doubt the whole project after the difficult start, but Harper reminds him how much the boys need him.

Later, Perri – one of the more sensible from the group – returns to the Surf Club to tell Tane that the others were out of line with their behaviour.

Perri also asks further about the self-defence classes, leaving Tane pleased that someone is willing to embrace the programme.

The next morning, Tane agrees to spend the day with Perri and teaches him the basic principles of self-defence.

Alf Stewart is proud of Tane when he sees him trying so hard – it's clear that he could make a real difference to Perri's life.

Home and Away airs these scenes on Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23.
