Home and Away's Tristan Gorey shares real-life friendship with co-star

He plays Dr Levi Fowler on the show.

Home and Away star Tristan Gorey has opened up on his real-life friendship with co-star Emily Weir, who plays his partner on the show.

Gorey plays Summer Bay's newcomer Levi Fowler, a cardiothoracic surgeon who's currently in a relationship with Weir's Mackenzie Booth. Speaking ahead of this year's Logie Awards, where he's nominated for Most Popular New Talent, Gorey told 7News about his relationship with Weir.

"I really love working with Emily Weir. I consider her a close friend," he said. "We're always asking each other questions about philosophy, I'm really lucky to be working with her."

Gorey had words of praise for the writing team behind the twists and turns of Home and Away, feeling lucky with the storylines he's been involved in so far.

"I couldn't be happier with the stories I've been dealt, the stories are so human," the soap star said.

"I've been able to relate to them in some capacity. At the end of the day, the writing team is so strong."

The star also revealed who's the inspiration behind his Dr Fowler, explaining he looked at his own family to prep the character.

"My cousin is actually a neurosurgeon. So in the brief Christmas conversation, I was able to absorb his very calm persona. He is a very (even) tempered person," Gorey said.

"He always seems to be calm and in control. So I brought a bit of that to Levi."

It seems that Levi will definitely need some of that self-control in new scenes of the soap.

In an upcoming development, Mack becomes suspicious of Levi after she finds out he's kept from her that he's been speaking to his estranged wife Imogen.

She also becomes jealous upon seeing him being friendly with a female patient, a reminder of how their own affair started when Mack was his patient. Will the couple make it?
