Home and Away star responds to pregnancy speculation amid on-screen baby plot
Setting the record straight.
Home and Away star Jessica Redmayne has spoken out amid speculation she's pregnant. The actor confirmed she's not currently expecting a baby — although her character, Harper Matheson, is.
On screen, Harper has been growing closer to Tane Parata. The pair recently slept together as Harper supported him ahead of his trial for kidnapping baby Maia.
The soap's latest preview trailer revealed that Harper is set to find out that she's pregnant with Tane's baby in upcoming episodes, leaving her unsure about her next move.
But it appears that some fans have confused life in Summer Bay with the real world as Redmayne jokingly comparing her fake baby bump to actor Margot Robbie's real-life baby bump.
Posting a video to her Instagram Stories, she said: "It's been brought to my attention that people are wondering if Jessica is pregnant. Now, I know the similarities between me and Margot are uncanny, but no, I'm not pregnant.
"And if you have no idea what any of that means, I'm an actor, I work on Home and Away and my character's name is Harper – she is pregnant. My name's Jess, I'm not pregnant and Margot Robbie is pregnant. Just in case you didn't see that in the news. That was the gag. Trying to be funny."
With the pregnancy storyline still to play out on screen, fans can look forward to plenty of drama when Harper and Tane discover the news.
While the pair are not currently together, Tane has wanted to be a father for a while now. He ended his marriage to Felicity Newman after he discovered she had been lying about being ready to start a family with him and had been secretly taking contraceptive pills.
More recently, he looked into adopting abandoned baby Maia after he rescued her from the beach, but he was later forced to say goodbye to the child when her birth mother arrived to take her back.
Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeat screenings at 6pm on 5STAR and first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.
