Home and Away Roo Stewart star shares real reason why she often takes breaks from soap
Actress Georgie Parker, who is best known for playing Roo Stwart in Home and Away has shared the reason why her character is forced to exit the Aussie drama on regular occasions
Actress Georgie Parker of Home and Away has revealed the true reason behind her frequent absences from the well-liked Australian soap opera.
After appearing in the renowned serial opera as Roo Stewart in 2010, the 59-year-old found herself in the spotlight. Her persona is that of the daughter of the renowned Alf Stewart (Ray Meagher) and Martha (actor Belinda Gibson).
Despite having a significant role in the program, Georgie frequently takes time off to act in pantomimes and plays. In an earlier open interview with TV Week in Australia, the celebrity expressed her gratitude for having the freedom to pursue interests outside of her career.
Speaking openly to Australia’s TV week, she said: “The writers have to keep writing me out of the show so I can come and go – to do the plays and other little gigs here and there, so I don’t envy them having to do that. I think it’s important, at this time in my career, that I get to explore all the options of working with people I’ve worked with for 40 years. So I’m very grateful I get the freedom to do both.”
I’m very happy with what the writers have managed to give Roo. She’s lived a big life, and I’ve been able to interact with different characters this year, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.” Actor Ray Meagher also used to do pantomimes in the United Kingdom. However he decided to stop doing it a few years ago, and he seems to be completely fine with his decision.
Away from the her acting duties, Georgie previously opened up about her life-long health battles, including a car accident when she was younger which left her wanting to cover up her body. “I got hit by a car when I was young,” she explained in a previous interview. The star spoke with Body+Soul about living with the condition, which is where the spine twists and curves to the side. Revealing how she deals with the condition Georgie said often takes part in a lot of “strength training” as well as “a lot of swimming”.
In 2017, she told Now To Love: “It impacts me on a daily basis and I just have to stay fit to keep my back as functional as possible,” Georgie told the publication. I’ve never resented [having scoliosis] and it’s made me realise how lucky I am that, while I have this significant challenge, I can still live my life pretty much how I want to.”
