Home and Away Kirby star 'bawled eyes out' as she read 'heartbreaking' exit twist

Home and Away's Kirby Aramoana recently split from the band Lyrik to embark on a solo career and actress Angelina Thompson confessed she was in tears after reading the script..

Home and Away star Angelina Thomson "bawled her eyes out" after learning Kirby was quitting Lyrik.

Angelina made her debut as Kirby in mid-2022 alongside the three other members of the band Lyrik; Rob Mallet, Adam Rowland and Stephanie Panozzo, who landed the roles of Bob, Remi and Eden. Bob's departure from Summer Bay after just a few months led to Theo (Matt Evans) becoming the fourth member of the band.

But in September, Kirby announced she was quitting Lyrik to pursue a solo career, devastating her fellow bandmates. Her exit led to a huge fallout with Remi and ex-boyfriend Theo, as well as best friend Eden.

Opening up on how devastated she was at reading the scripts, the actress told Stuff: "All that stuff where Kirby and Eden and Remi were really butting heads was actually really hard to do. I remember the first time I read those scripts was on a plane to Melbourne to see my boyfriend and I bawled my eyes out.

"I sent a photo to one of our writers and I was like, ‘This is so beautiful but I’m heartbroken reading it’. It was quite a journey." Angelina was already an accomplished musical theatre performer before landing a role on Australia's longest running soap and admitted she often misses taking to the stage.

Her boyfriend, theatre performer Lachlan Dearing, is currently on the international tour of Hamilton and conversations about his work remind her of what she misses. "When he tells me all of these things that he’s doing, I’m like, ‘Oh, gosh, I miss the theatre’," she told the publication.

"There are huge things that I miss, like singing, dancing, and acting with a live audience. But I also know I will do theatre again in the future and know that when that happens I will miss TV land so much.

She went on: "I know the grass isn’t always greener and I’m very grateful where I am." While landing the role of Kirby was a dream come true, Angelina opened up about other elements that fans wouldn't always see.

“But I think you often put dreams on a pedestal but the reality of the dream is very different, she said. "There are so many other things to consider when you’re actually living out the reality of that dream."

Angelina added: "It’s difficult, it’s exhausting, it’s tricky. It feels confusing – there are lots of different elements that you could probably have warned me about before I booked the job, but I wouldn’t have listened. I would just say, ‘I want to do it, so I’m going to do it’."
