Home and Away Dana star Ally Harris teases huge change after terrifying kidnap ordeal

Home and Away's Dana has experienced nothing but drama since arriving in Summer Bay but actress Ally Harris revealed fans can expect to see a different side to her character..

Home and Away star Ally Harris has teased a huge change for her character Dana Matheson.

Channel 5 fans were recently introduced to Dana, who was wanted by the police for drug possession. Dana's sister, Harper Matheson (Jessica Redmayne), kept her hidden at Irene's place as she pleaded with Cash to look into Dana's case, convinced she was being set up.

During Monday's episode (October 30) of the soap, Dana was kidnapped by Detective Madden (Jonny Pasvolsky) and held in an abandoned shack, with his plans to murder her soon revealed. Despite being delivered a lethal dose of Fentanyl, Dana was able to survive the attack while Madden and his henchman were arrested.

Dana has experienced nothing but drama since arriving in the Bay, but actress Ally promised a more light-hearted path for her character. Speaking to Stuff.nz, Ally explained: "One of the directors compared it to being like a repertory theatre company where, instead of doing different plays and playing different people, it’s like you stay as Hamlet but in different genres.

"It’s really exciting. I came on the show, doing kind of like a crime thing, and now it’s heading to comedy and things like that. And that’s so fun – just to see the same person but in different scenarios." The Perth native revealed she has signed a three-year contract with the soap and hopes to bring herself to Dana as she continues playing the role.

The soap star added: "Anytime I work, I just bring as much of myself to work as I possibly can. I want to be as much like myself as possible, because I’m spending a lot of time in this world. Obviously, the circumstances are different, and I don’t get to decide what I do – that’s in the script – but that’s wonderful because it’s such a great exercise in self exploration.

"You go, 'I wouldn’t ever do that, but if I did that, why did I do that? Why would I do that?' You get to kind of find a different part of yourself that does do that."

With Dana recovering in hospital, it appeared things were looking up as the charges against her would soon be dropped. The same can't be said for Irene, however, as Rose (Kirsty Marillier) was quick to remind her that harbouring a fugitive could result in jail time.

Dropping a truth bomb on Irene, Rose told her that she believes the DPP will want to press charges against Irene, Harper and Cash. And if they do, they could all be looking at a stint behind bars.

During Wednesday's episode (November 1), Irene worried about facing criminal charges. However, during a conversation with John, Irene admitted she would do it again if she had to as the girls had no other choice.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
