Neighbours airs exit story for major character

Neighbours spoilers follow for Monday’s (October 2) episode that is now available to stream on Amazon Freevee.

Emotions ran high for Mike Young (Guy Pearce) during the latest edition of the popular soap as he popped the question to one true love Jane Harris (Annie Jones) in a scene three decades in the making.

The iconic couple reunited during last year’s ‘finale’, and with Guy having once again reprised his role, the opening episodes of Neighbours’ revival saw Mike and Jane head to the UK for a special trip.

It soon came to light, however, that Mike had an ulterior motive in arranging such a trip as he was secretly planning on popping the question...

Riddled with jet lag, Jane was unaware of what Mike was up to and, upon finding out a huge secret from her sources on Ramsay Street, she needed time to herself, which put a dampener on the trip.

Mike was heartbroken, believing that Jane was preparing to break up with him and therefore he threw his engagement ring in the lake.

After locating Jane at the nearby bridge, he was quick to reassure her that it’s okay if she ends things between them.

Jane, however, was horrified by such a notion as she revealed what was really on her mind, confirming that he was about to lose his job at Erinsborough High.

The news came as a shock to Mike, but he didn’t dwell on it too much as there was something more pressing on his mind – retrieving his engagement ring!

The teacher raced to the lake before reuniting with Jane, who was confused about why he was all wet. Mike told Jane just how much he loved her before getting down on one knee to pop the question.

Like many viewers at home, including ourselves, Jane burst into tears, before instantly saying yes.

Our hearts couldn’t be any fuller.

After the excitement settled, Jane informed Mike that she’s going to return to Erinsborough earlier than expected to try and sort out whatever has gone on at the school, though urged him to stay put and retrace his grandfather’s steps like he had planned.

This brings to an end Guy Pearce’s current stint on Neighbours, though with Mike and Jane remaining together, it’s very possible that this won’t be the last we’ll see of him.

Jane, meanwhile, will arrive back in Ramsay Street later in the week and there’s going to be more heartache ahead for her, with a huge betrayal on the cards.

Neighbours streams Mondays to Thursdays on Amazon Freevee with new episodes available from at 7am.
