Man jailed for killing former Hollyoaks star Frankie Jules-Hough has sentence extended

Three appeal court judges have concluded the man's original sentence was unduly lenient.

A man who was jailed for killing former Hollyoaks star Frankie Jules-Hough in a motorway crash earlier this year has had his sentence extended.

Jules-Hough, who played Jess Holt on the Channel 4 soap, tragically died in May after Adil Iqbal crashed into her vehicle on the M66 motorway in Greater Manchester due to speeding up to 123mph, with one hand on the wheel, as he filmed himself on his phone.

Iqbal was jailed for 12 years in July for killing the mother of two, who was also 17 weeks pregnant at the time, by dangerous driving.

However, three appeal court judges in London increased Iqbal’s jail term to 15 years today (October 13) after concluding the original sentence was unduly lenient (via The Mirror).

Jules-Hough's nine-year-old son and four-year-old nephew were also in the car and were both placed into induced comas, their long-term outcomes uncertain. Her two-year-old son suffered minor injuries.

Solicitor Rose Gibson-Harper, who represents the victim's family, previously said Iqbal's original 12-year sentence was "insulting and an injustice" to the "life sentence Mrs Hough’s family were needlessly handed following her and her unborn daughter’s death due to an act of sheer stupidity."

She continued: "This case stands as one of the worst examples of dangerous driving I have witnessed in my 27-year career as a catastrophic injury lawyer, and we expected the justice system to fulfil its duty and utilise its new-found powers.

"It is important to emphasise that dangerous driving is not a game. It has real and devastating consequences, and we must collectively work towards creating a society that values responsible driving and prioritises the safety of all road users."
