Former Coronation Street and Hollyoaks star Lucy-Jo Hudson rushed to hospital

 "I was rushed to A&E!"

Former Coronation Street and Hollyoaks star Lucy-Jo Hudson has revealed that she was rushed to hospital needing a blood transfusion.

Hudson, who appeared on the Corrie as Katy Harris from 2002 to 2005, and Hollyoaks as Donna-Marie Quinn from 2018-2023, took to Instagram today (October 15) to share a "strange few days" with her followers.

"I was rushed to A&E on Thursday afternoon needing a blood transfusion!" the star shared in a caption accompanying two pictures of an IV drip, adding that she ended up needing two, as her "HB (haemoglobin) levels were that dangerously low."

Continuing, Hudson thanked the staff at Salford Royal hospital, who "took such good care of [her] on the emergency assessment unit".

She also assured fans that she was "on the mend", but that she was booked in for more tests next week.

"I’m at home now resting…. And just trying to build up my energy again!" she added.

Hudson signed off the post by writing: "Sending you all lots of love…. And this is not a 'feel sorry for me' post, this is to make you all aware that 'self care' is so important in the crazy world we all live in right now."

Hudson left Hollyoaks in September 2023, after a tragic past few months for her character of Donna-Marie. She had struggled to cope with her daughter's death after a terminal illness, and relapsed multiple times.

"Donna-Marie is out of control and it gets to a point where enough is enough and she decides that she needs to take herself away and do this on her own time, she can't be pressured by others.

"She doesn't want everybody around her seeing her spiral, so she wants to get help."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
