Wedding day heartache for Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest's Home & Away actress daughter following billionaire parents' decision to break up

Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest and his wife Nicola's decision to live apart could trigger wedding day heartbreak for their middle child, Sophia.

The Home & Away star, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, is set to tie the knot with their fiancé and fellow actress Zara Zoe.

But Sophia now faces the prospect of both parents sitting on separate sides of the aisle after announcing they are separating.

The pair, who are Australia's richest couple and have been married for more than 30 years, released a statement on Wednesday night revealing they had split and will now live apart.

'After 31 years of marriage, we have made the decision to live apart. Our friendship and commitment to our family remains strong,' Andrew and Nicola Forrest said in a joint statement to The Australian Financial Review.

The announcement came just days after Sophia had shared a series of pictures of Zara on Instagram, including shots of the pair kissing.

Mr Forrest, known by his nickname 'Twiggy', was ranked the second richest person in Australia this year - behind rival mining magnate Gina Rinehart.

The couple's wealth has largely been amassed through their 36 per cent stake in iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group, which they founded in 2003 and is now the eighth-biggest company on the ASX by market capitalisation.

Sophia has starred alongside Russell Crowe in The Water Diviner, Teresa Palmer in Ride Like A Girl and Jason Momoa in Aquaman

Just two days after Sophia, 28, and Zoe, 27, announced their engagement in April last year, Sophia's mining magnate parents revealed why none of their three children will inherit their $32 billion fortune.

Nicola told ABC's Australian Story last year 'children don't benefit from thinking they're going to inherit a huge amount of money'.

'We live in a home and I have a great life - but the things that are most important in life, money doesn't buy that,' she said.

'I think its [inheritance] a burden.'

Andrew added: 'The decision to give away everything but the personal things and goods was easy'.

'You know, let's not die wealthy. What's the point of that?'

Sophia certainly does not seem to begrudge their parents the decision.

None of the Forrest's children (from left Grace, Nicola, Andrew, Sophia and Sydney) will inherit their $32 billion fortune

'Inheritance has never really made sense to me. You watch it tear families apart and it baffles me,' Sophia told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2017.

'You're not entitled to that money, you haven't earned it, you haven't worked for it — I don't see why you think it should be yours. So we all agreed to give it all away.

'It's a relief to know it's not my problem. It's going to better things. I don't need it. I'm going to work and make it on my own.'

Despite not inheriting their parents' billions, Sophia will not fare too badly. In 2021, they forked out $1.8 million - no finance needed - to buy a two-storey penthouse in Sydney's Waterloo, according to the AFR.

Sophia has starred alongside Russell Crowe in The Water Diviner, Teresa Palmer in Ride Like A Girl and Jason Momoa in Aquaman.

The actress also had roles in Home and Away, Love Child, Bali 2002 and Barons.

Sophia and Crowe were romantically linked after they were spotted watching an NRL match together, but Crowe quickly shut down the rumours.

Sophia met Zoe on the set Ride Like A Girl, based on the true story of Micelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup in 2015.

The pair are yet to announce their wedding date.

Andrew and Nicola Forrest have two other children daughter Grace and son Syndey.
