Home and Away legend Lynne McGranger has teased that a new character is joining the Australian soap — but is cheekily giving very little away.

The actress, who has been playing Irene Roberts since 1993, uploaded a selfie to her Instagram this week alongside Cash Newman actor Nicholas Cartwright and... someone else.

"Saturday vibes with Cash and an exciting new character. Coming soon. @homeandaway #SummerBay @_nicholas_cartwright_," she wrote in the caption, leaving no clues whatsoever (that we can see anyway).

The fact that Cash is in his police uniform could be a hint as to who the character is, whether they're a fellow copper or maybe on the wrong side of the law.

Fans in the comments section though hoped that the character doesn't come between Cash and Eden Fowler following their relationship dramas.

Some other Home and Away newcomers for you to keep an eye out in future episodes? The real-life mum and aunty of Leah Patterson actress Ada Nicodemou. They visited the set to hang out with McGranger and Justin Morgan actor James Stewart, and actually ended up filming background appearances that will apparently make the episode.

"Had some special visitors on set this morning at #palmbeach and they made the cut. Mum and my aunt are now famous," Nicodemou wrote on Instagram earlier this month.

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
