Hollyoaks star Richard Blackwood hints at possible wedding storyline

"Go the whole hog eventually - imagine that wedding!"

Hollyoaks star Richard Blackwood has opened up about his on-screen romance and how he didn't see it coming.

Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) and his partner Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) dialled up their relationship from friendship to romance late last year, and fans of the show love it.

Although their relationship has had its bumps, the pair have become Chester's hottest new couple and, speaking to Inside Soap, Blackwood has not ruled out the pair tying the knot.

Acknowledging that the fans would want to see the pair walk down the aisle, he is sure that if they did, it would be full of drama.

To Inside Soap, he said: "The audience seems to love them together, so I think they would like to see them go the whole hog eventually. Imagine that wedding!

"You never know what you're going to get with the McQueens, and Felix has a police officer in his family – Zoe would probably have to arrest Mercedes for something before she even said her vows!"

He said that the pair were drawn together by their joint traumatic and troublesome pasts, adding that "they're both broken".

"Mercedes is a hot mess, which Felix was warned about: but he doesn't make judgements on anyone as he's done many things he shouldn't be forgiven for," Blackwood commented.

"He's turned it around and has a level of empathy. People told him Mercedes is no good, but he says, 'Neither was I, and I've done worse!'"

Blackwood claimed he was the last to know that the two were to become romantically involved.

He said: "I was definitely the last to know! Me and Jen [Metcalfe, aka Mercedes] had to give each other these little looks in a scene, I asked her what was going on, and she laughed and said she'd just had a meeting about the characters getting together.

"Before that, when we shot the opening titles, Jen and I were next to each other when we walk out at the end - so they'd obviously thought about it for a while. We were none the wiser!"

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
