Home and Away star Matt Evans shares real-life similarities to Theo's big storyline

"The fan culture was something that I've definitely experienced."

Home and Away star Matt Evans has said he can relate to a new storyline that sees his character Theo Poulos deal with the dark side of fame.

Evans, known for his stint on The Voice Australia, plays Lyrik's lead singer Theo on the Aussie soap. In fresh scenes for viewers Down Under (those in the UK will have to wait just a few weeks), the character will realise a fan of his band is actually a dangerous stalker.

Speaking about his own experience with fans, Evans said it was "so weird" finding out he had a following.

"I remember I was just like, 'This is so weird,'" he explained (via Stuff).

"It was such a foreign feeling and I had to navigate my way around what this new thing was," he added.

Evans also shared his feelings about knowing he'd have to play an artist being harassed by a stalker.

"When I got the storyline, I was like, 'You know what, I've been here'. Granted, I've never had a stalker, but the fan culture was something that I've definitely experienced," he said.

While the actor and singer said his fans were "lovely," he also revealed he had an issue with one person in particular.

"I've had to block one person online just because they had so many different accounts and they kept inboxing my friends and other people," he said.

"That was a tough thing for me to handle at the time but, generally, everyone's pretty lovely."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
