Home and Away star Jacqui Purvis shares emotional moment from filming car crash story
"It’s just such a massive honour for someone to say that to you."
Home and Away star Jacqui Purvis has shared an emotional moment of the filming process for the soap’s big car crash.
Tuesday’s episode (January 10) in Australia saw a huge pile-up on the day of Felicity and Tane’s wedding, with Eden’s life hanging in the balance following a huge collision.
Purvis, who plays Felicity, spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle about filming the intense scenes, revealing that she shared an emotional moment with the real-life paramedics who were a part of the shooting process.
“I had the most beautiful moment with one of the paramedics. He came up to me and said that he was so touched by the moment,” she recalled.
“He actually started crying because he had been through an experience that was pretty much exactly the same. It’s just such a massive honour for someone to say that to you. It was really special – there were so many emotions going on.”
The actress, who joined the soap in 2021, continued by describing her experience on the set, adding that filming the scenes was “scary” and a “blessing” for any actor.
It’s a moment that you never usually have in everyday life, so being able to film such crazy scenes is just a blessing for an actor,” she said.
“They’d have massive flames coming up, and I was in the car, there’s flames everywhere. It was so strong that [I was] in the car, [but I could] feel the heat. I honestly didn’t need to act, it was so scary and so surreal.”
The crash, which was caused by an associate of Tex Wheeler tampering with the brakes, saw Justin and Leah collide with Eden and Felicity, with Justin subsequently being blamed for the incident.
Will the police uncover the biker gang’s plot, or will Justin continue to take the fall?
Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
