Home and Away’s Jacqui Purvis reveals ‘mean’ Christmas gift

It has been a whirlwind year for Home and Away’sJacqui Purvis, with her character Felicity Newman being the centre of multiple high-stakes storylines on the soap. Her character has been targetted by bikie thugs and will be trapped in a potentially fatal car crash when the show returns in January.

Once the show has finished shooting for the year, the star is looking forward to celebrating Christmas with her family and friends in Melbourne, where she’s from. In a chat with Yahoo Lifestyle, the star calls out the worst present she has ever received, reveals her ‘weird’ Christmas tradition and spills on what a Summer Bay Christmas special would look like.

The actress finds it difficult to name the worst Christmas present she has ever received, but she can recall a specific snow globe that her aunt gave her when she was a young girl.

Although she had enjoyed the gift the first time, she was disappointed to discover the same snow globe the next year.

It had these fairies and other things, and it was really gorgeous. The item was purchased for me by [my aunty] one Christmas, then the next Christmas, she made the exact same purchase.

“I said, ‘I already have it. Did you overlook? That’s cruel, she reflects.

The celebrity also reveals that the main course for the event’s opening is a sumptuous brunch, which she finds a little odd.

She laughs, “We’ll do presents and we do this tradition where we eat these poached pears with brioche French toast. “I don’t know why, but it’s strange, and it’s not even really Christmassy.”

The recipe was simply found by her family in a book, and the custom was established. She’s eager to catch up with her best buddy, whom she views as her “second family,” as well.

Since we are so close, she decides, “I’ll go over to her house and have a good old time.” a little odd.

A Summer Bay Christmas special

Her favourite Christmas movie is The Holiday, and says it has the ‘perfect mix’ of romance, comedy and acting.

When the star imagines what a Home and Away Christmas special would be like, she can’t stop laughing.

“What would happen, how would we celebrate Christmas? I feel like we’d get really drunk, and then [Felicity would] just throw a party,” Jacqui guesses. “[Felicity would] be like, everyone come around and let’s just drink and have fun!”

Jacqui adds that she thinks they would play the stealing Santa game, where guests take turns to pick a new gift, or steal one from somebody else.

“She’d probably steal, knowing her,” she quips.
