Hollyoaks stars Richard Blackwood and Jennifer Metcalfe back Felix and Mercedes' future
"I definitely think they’re suited as a couple."
Hollyoaks stars Richard Blackwood and Jennifer Metcalfe have backed the future of their characters, Felix and Mercedes.
In episodes that will air over the festive period, the pair’s relationship will heat up after they recently found common ground with their experience of single parenthood.
With a romance on the way, both Blackwood and Metcalfe were excited about what’s in store for Felix and Mercedes respectively, suggesting that they were a match made in heaven.
“I definitely think they’re suited as a couple,” Blackwood told Inside Soap. “They’re both broken souls – Felix has had a colourful past, but he’s trying to make amends and turn his life around. They’ve met their match in each other, but I also think they can heal each other.”
Speaking to the same outlet, Metcalfe echoed the thoughts of her co-star before offering fans a hint of what’s to come for the couple: “Mercedes has seen a different side to Felix. He’s taking charge, and he’s been there for her come rain or shine – that’s what she needs right now,” she said.
“It gets better for them before it gets worse. Their relationship is a slow burn, but it’s really fitting that they’re getting together at this time of year. It’s all very soapy and cheesy, but it’s also wonderful and gorgeous,” she added.
With the pair now sharing the screen more than before, they each revealed that filming the scenes had been fun as they brought the best out of each other.
“Jen’s an exceptional actress; when you’re working with her you have to bring your A-game,” revealed Blackwood. “She makes me step things up.”
Metcalfe, who has appeared on the Channel 4 soap since 2006, added: “We have the best days on set, it’s such a joy. We work well together, but we also know how to have a bit of fun.”
Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
