Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe teases comeuppance for killer Bobby

"It's all got to come to a head."

Raising children isn't easy, but raising a child who also happens to be a serial killer is... definitely not ideal.

That's the situation being faced by Hollyoaks' Mercedes McQueen, who is becoming increasingly troubled by the behaviour of her son Bobby Costello.

Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes on the soap, has given an insight into her character's struggles, going so far as to suggest that Bobby's criminal behaviour won't continue to stay under the radar.

Speaking about how Mercedes is feeling about raising Bobby, Jennifer told Inside Soap: "Mercedes is trying her hardest to deal with him herself, but I really don't think she knows how to. In the beginning she thought Bobby was just in a bit of bother and she was making excuses for him. Now she's running out of excuses – he needs help!"

Mercedes, of course, witnessed Bobby kill Silas, and was told that he had left his stepdad Sylver to die.

However, she doesn't know about the extent of his actions. In fact, on Christmas Day, Bobby will attempt another cold-blooded murder.

This murder attempt will be against Felix Westwood, who has been getting closer to Mercedes. While Bobby wants him out of the picture, Jennifer thinks he's just what her character needs.

The actress explained: "I always think if Mercedes had more resources she might able to cope with everything, and I feel she is getting to the point where she needs that outside help. It's just getting a bit beyond it for just her now."

Jennifer also admitted that she thinks Bobby's reign of terror won't last, saying" "There has to be some comeuppance at some point, doesn't there? It's all got to come to a head. And there needs to be a resolution to the story so people can move forward and develop as characters…"

Perhaps, with Aunt Goldie on the case, Bobby's crimes will come to light.

Speaking of the future, Jennifer admits that things don't get any easier for her soap family: "All I'll say is we filmed some very heavy stuff for what's coming next, and I think it's what the viewers will be hoping for. It's been a real swamp for the McQueens for the last little while, and things are still looking pretty muddy!"

Whether this is because Bobby will be exposed, or because he will continue to murder at will, remains to be seen.

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
