Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter admits viewer fury over Chas affair story

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has admitted to viewer fury over her character Chas Dingle's affair story.

Recently, Chas was embroiled in an affair with Al Chapman before he was shot dead in October. Chas was planning to run away with Al but has since decided to focus on her marriage to Paddy.

Lucy has now opened up about the "furious" reaction that viewers had to her affair storyline.

"They are absolutely furious with her. In fact with all the storylines I've ever played I have never had a response like this," Lucy revealed.

"They are furious and the vigour and the anger they have is strong. They are cross – she has betrayed her marriage. But I do understand their reaction," she added.

Speaking of the different layers to the story, Lucy said it has been "interesting" to portray but that she doesn't agree with her character's choices.

"Yes it certainly has been very varied. I would never condone or agree with her behaviour but it has been interesting to play," she admitted.

When quizzed on whether or not Chas would take advice from a friend, Lucy said: "I think it's a bit late for advice as she's done it now. But if her friend had given her advice a bit earlier not to go there it might have helped, but I'm not sure Chas listens to much advice."

In upcoming scenes, Belle will share Chas' secret with Moira Dingle after catching Chas out after she lied to Belle about ending the affair to secure her silence.

Speaking about the future of Chas and Paddy's marriage once the secret is revealed, Lucy said: "I'm absolutely terrified."
