Neighbours' April Rose Pengilly reveals if she'd return as Chloe Brennan

"Best case scenario would be something like a normal show, where we’d shoot for just a few months of the year."

Neighbours star April Rose Pengilly has revealed whether she would return to the soap as Chloe Brennan, following the shock news that the show is being revived.

The long-running soap was cancelled earlier this year after 37 years on the small screen, but Amazon Freevee gave it a new lease of life by ordering a new batch of episodes for 2023.

With many of the stars saying they were shocked by news of the revival, Pengilly has discussed her initial reaction to the development whilst also debating if she’d return.

The star urged her fans to ask her questions on Instagram, with viewers understandably quizzing her on the return of the Australian soap.

“I would love to [return]. But it depends on other projects and the circumstances. Most of the cast have left Melbourne and don’t want to go through moving again,” she revealed. “I don’t speak for everyone, but I think we’re not keen on going back to something like before - it was all-encompassing and exhausting.

“Best case scenario would be something like a normal show, where we’d shoot for just a few months of the year and have some flexibility (many don’t want to move back so would want to find ways to commute).

But we literally have no info and don’t even know if we’ll be asked! I also think me returning may mean Chelly breaking up, and I don’t want to destroy our happy ending.”

When asked about the return of the show, Pengilly revealed her surprise at the announcement, saying: “We were all just really shocked and confused! I’m so happy for all of you to have your show back and know you’re so excited, but it’s strange for us as we knew nothing about it.

“Apart from the Heritage 4, none of us have been asked to be involved yet. It’s like, all us cast and crew lost our jobs. Now the jobs are back! But maybe we don’t get the jobs.”

Neighbours returns in mid-2023 with new episodes streaming free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
