Home and Away’s Ray Meagher’s wife Gilly, why he had no kids and retirement away from Alf Stewart role

He is the only original character left on the Australian soap, but initially wondered when he would be able to feed himself as a young struggling actor before meeting his wife.

In addition to being the longest-running character on Home and Away, Ray Meagher is also a huge favourite among fans of soap operas.

The Australian, who is the only original cast member still appearing on the show, used to worry about how he would support himself as a young independent actor.

But since assuming the role of Alf Stewart in 1988, Ray has wed Gilly, the woman he believes saved his life.

How old is Ray and where is he from?

Ray, who is currently 77 years old, was born on July 4th, 1944. He was raised on a sheep and cattle station and is originally from Roma in Queensland.

Later, when he was nine years old, he started attending boarding school on the Gold Coast and participating in a variety of sports, including rugby.

Who is Ray’s wife?

Former nurses Gilly and Ray dated for six years before getting married in a small ceremony in 2010.

They didn’t want to make a big deal out of the wedding because they had both done it previously, the soap actor claimed.

Ray revealed that Gilly dislikes the spotlight and avoids making public appearances with her spouse because she doesn’t want him to worry about her while attending award ceremonies.

Does Ray have children?

Ray doesn’t have any kids, no. When he was younger and working as a freelance actor, he claimed, he didn’t have the mental capacity to consider feeding someone else because he was too busy worrying about when he would be able to eat.

He described his line of work as a “strange old job,” adding that it was “precarious” because you never knew where you would end up working.

Ray does, however, have a stepdaughter named Rebecca that his wife Gilly had from a prior union.

Rebecca, who is in her 40s, and the other like to talk at least once a week and occasionally go out to eat.

After discovering three significant blockages in his coronary artery, Ray underwent a triple bypass in the early months of 2019.

He underwent another surgery seven months later after experiencing a “tickle” in his chest while out for a walk.

As a former nurse who assisted him in his recuperation, Ray attributes his wife with saving his life.
He referred to her as a “lifesaver” since she had made it easier for him to maintain his health and adopt new habits.
