Home and Away Tane star’s life – hidden talents, secret engineering career and bond with daughter
Ethan Browne has played heartthrob Tane since 2020, and the star has a range of surprising hidden talents as well as family bonds that melt fans’ hearts on Instagram
Fans of Home and Away know him best for his portrayal of the love interest Tane Parata, but what is actor Ethan Browne’s life like outside of Summer Bay?
In February 2020, the 30-year-old New Zealander made his television debut as Tane, joining on-screen siblings Ari Parata and Nikau as the soap’s new Mori family.
Fortunately, actor Ethan’s real life is a quieter affair, though it does contain some twists and turns worthy of a soap opera narrative. In a dramatic impending plot, the character’s life hangs in the balance following a stabbing.
Here is everything we know about the actor, including his outstanding secret abilities in music and martial arts as well as his significant career transition.
Becoming a teen dad
At the age of 16, Ethan became a father to his daughter Aaylah, and he frequently posts adorable pictures on his Instagram page demonstrating their strong relationship.
To celebrate his daughter’s 13th birthday, the actor wrote in the caption of a photo of him holding her at the aquarium, “Everything I do is for you, and I will forever love you and protect you.”
Ethan had to wait almost a year to see Aaylah in person due to the epidemic, and he shared an emotional video of their reunion.
An occasion of which I had long dreamed and fantasised. I can’t even begin to express how difficult this period has been, the actor stated with the video of him cuddling his kid.
Ethan values his family dearly, and he frequently posts love messages to his siblings on Instagram.
Due to Covid regulations, he was regrettably unable to fly back to New Zealand in 2020 to attend his sister’s wedding. Nevertheless, he made sure to watch the entire event via FaceTime.
Passion for music
Ethan has other creative abilities than acting; he plays multiple instruments and originally thought about pursuing a career in music. He grew up in a musical family.
Ethan started playing the guitar and drums at the age of 13, and he was a part of various bands throughout high school.
Even though he eventually decided to pursue acting, Ethan still enjoys music and continues to post videos of his drumming sessions on Instagram.
Martial arts talent
When he was younger, Ethan enjoyed watching movies, and his favourite genre encouraged him to pursue a career in acting as well as martial arts.
Ethan began practising play-wrestling with his siblings in the backyard before enrolling in martial arts classes and becoming a black belt in taekwondo and karate.
He still takes pleasure in experimenting with different martial art forms and frequently posts updates from his practise sessions on his Instagram feed.
Different career path
As if Ethan didn’t already have enough going for him, he also has a second skill that he keeps hidden and that almost led him to choose a whole other path in life.
Even though he had always wanted to pursue acting, Ethan acknowledged that it was challenging to do so in his birthplace of Wairoa because it was “dominated by rugby culture.”
He told the Daily Telegraph, “I wanted to do [acting] in high school but the males didn’t like it, that sort of culture, it wasn’t the tough masculine thing to do.”
After having his daughter at an early age, Ethan’s goals changed, and he continued his studies in civil engineering to ensure he could support her.
Ethan moved from his home of New Zealand to Brisbane after receiving his diploma to work as a civil draughtsman – but unsatisfied with his job, he decided he wasn’t ready to give up on his dream and took up acting classes in his 20s.
He was later accepted into the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, and the rest is history..
