Former Neighbours star Georgie Stone announces worldwide release date for her documentary

Former Neighbours star Georgie Stone has confirmed a release date for her new documentary – and it will premiere next month.

The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone follows Georgie through childhood and adulthood, as she advocates for the rights of other transgender children and teenagers across Australia. She has been working on the documentary for eight years.

Taking to Instagram, Georgie, who played Mackenzie Hargreaves on the soap, confirmed that that the film will debut on Netflix on September 22. Watch the trailer below:

"I'm really proud to be sharing this short documentary about my life growing up as a trans kid in Australia," she wrote.

"I've been working on it for the last 8 years with the incredible @mayadonna and it's surreal that it’s finally coming out! For more information on the film or how to support our impact campaign, please go to dreamlifefilm.com".

Speaking previously about the film, director Maya Newell said (via if.com): "Georgie has so much to teach the world about identity, the expansive spectrum of gender, determination, how to love, listen and the importance of accepting each other for who we are."

Georgie made history as the youngest person to receive hormone blockers in Australia, and successfully campaigned for a change in the law regarding treatment.

The star previously revealed that she missed the premiere of the film at the Tribeca Film Festival to appear in the final episodes of Neighbours, which recently aired.

"It does clash with the end of Neighbours. A choice had to be made and I chose Neighbours," she told  "I'm not going to go over to New York, unfortunately. It's a real shame, but how could I not choose the end of Neighbours?

"Firstly, I'm contractually obligated! Secondly, even if I wasn't, I would choose to anyway because this is a moment in history. This iconic, 37-year-old Australian legend is coming to an end.

"I have to be a part of that and I have to finish Mackenzie's story, which I've invested the last three years in. So I will be there!"

The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone will debut worldwide on Netflix on September 22. Neighbours has now come to an end, but catch-up episodes are available via My 5 (UK) and 10 Play (Australia).
