Coronation Street's Summer Spellman hits back at Billy after drugs drama

The One with the Stoned Bishop.

Summer Spellman has hit out at godfather Billy Mayhew in Coronation Street following a dramatic experiment with cannabis.

Tuesday's (October 4) episode saw Summer and boyfriend Aaron Sandford trying to cut loose by experimenting with weed brownies at the worst possible time for vicar Billy.

Viewers have seen Summer struggling with academic pressure as well as an eating disorder, while Aaron hasn't been coping with the fact that his alcoholic father is abusive.

In the latest instalment, Aaron revealed to Summer he'd resorted to stealing his father's wallet to stop him buying booze, and found a bag of cannabis inside. This gave them an idea…

Later, Billy and Todd arrived home to find Summer and Aaron giggly and stoned after over-consuming some weed brownies.

The timing was less than impeccable as Billy was due for a visit from the bishop at any moment, leading him to bundle the couple into the bedroom until his meeting finished.

Once the bishop arrived, Todd had to intervene to prevent him from sampling one of the cannabis-infused brownies, but his forcefulness put off the bishop because he'd already had one.

An embarrassed Billy was left trying to explain himself before Todd offered to take the bishop home. Once the bishop was out of sight, Billy took out his frustration on Aaron over the dangers of drugs.

This is when Summer snapped and warned her guardian that she's sick of being controlled. Can Billy repair things with Summer before she takes any serious risks?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
