Coronation Street's Bernie Winter gets surprising support in lookalike story
Who's come to her aide?
Bernie Winter has received surprising support in Coronation Street's doppelgänger story.
The Weatherfield resident has been terrorised by Fern Lindon in recent weeks, with Fern using their unusual physical similarities to her advantage to commit crimes in Bernie's name.
Friday's episode (October 21) saw Bernie trying to explain the situation to police: Fern had taken out a cleaning job in her name and even stole her clothes so she could swipe the jewels.
The police detective revealed Bernie's alibi was turning up to be a dead-end so far because the phone number she'd given them for Fern had been disconnected.
While Bernie was ultimately released pending further questioning, she faced surprise scepticism as she returned home to relay the whole story of Fern's scam to Chesney and Gemma..
The couple's doubts truly hurt Bernie, especially since her chances of beating the rap weren't exactly high if her own family didn't believe her story.
However, Bernie got some surprising support when she was drowning her sorrows at the Rovers. Dev Alahan assured Bernie he believed her version of events and would be standing by her.
The question remains over whether they can find Fern and prove she was behind the criminal plot!
Gabrielle Glaister joined the soap over the summer as part of a storyline devised by Jane Hazlegrove because the two actresses have often been mistaken for one another.
"When they approached me with the storyline, it seemed like fate! What they've written is so clever and I'm having a ball working with Jane," Glaister said at the time.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
