Home and Away lines up danger for Ziggy in baby storyline

"She's in denial about her whole life changing."

Home and Away spoilers follow for Australian pace viewers.

Home and Away is lining up a dangerous scene for Ziggy as she and her unborn baby run into danger at the garage.

Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) is expecting a child with Dean (Patrick O'Connor), but she is determined to balance the pregnancy with her career.

In upcoming scenes, a worried Dean will encourage his pregnant girlfriend to confide in her boss about the pregnancy, but when Justin offers her a promotion at the garage she accepts.

Disappointed in Ziggy's decision, Dean worries that she is putting her and the baby's health at risk.

Ziggy heads to the garage alone to prove to Dean and Justin that she can handle herself and the workload.

Distracted, she inhales toxic fumes and falls unconscious. Luckily, Ziggy is found by Tane – but is the baby safe?

Ziggy actress Sophie Dillman told Australia's TV Week about the harrowing moment, which she says is brought about by her character's exhaustion.

"She gets dizzy from smelling fumes, but also it stems from exhaustion," she revealed. "She's in denial about her whole life changing. She's adamant that she can do it all. She's a superwoman, absolutely, but unfortunately she can't do it all."

Dillman also opened up about portraying the real-life struggles that couples encounter when facing a pregnancy, and said it was "important" to show audiences these difficulties.

"We see absolutely everything: doubt, fear, joy – from both of them – and conflict because heard conversations have to come into the mix when it comes to parenthood and things like how they'll juggle Jai or even how they'll manage with just one car. It's important to show that because it happens in real life."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.
