Emmerdale's Leyla stays silent as Liam is caught out

Leyla has chosen to stay silent after Liam was caught out for kissing Bernice in Emmerdale.

A double bill on Tuesday (September 20) continued to show cracks in the pair's marriage as Liam has struggled to trust Leyla because of her addiction issues.

The tension between Liam and Leyla boiled over this week when the doctor turned to his former partner Bernice for support and took advantage of the moment to kiss her.

The second half of Tuesday's double bill saw Bernice wracked with guilt over betraying her friendship with Leyla by not coming clean about Liam kissing her. Liam was waiting outside her house in the morning to talk.

"This whole situation with the kiss has been an absolute nightmare," he insisted. "I haven't exactly told her yet. I have a few reservations about your 'honesty being the best policy'."

Bernice argued that Leyla had taken responsibility for her actions, and now Liam must do the same. Meanwhile, Leyla had returned to work at Take a Vow to distract herself from her marriage troubles.

Liam arrived with something he needed to tell her, but he backed down in the moment of truth by claiming he'd only gone to see Bernice for advice.

"I don't want to lose you," he told his wife, and she admitted: "I don't want to lose you either. None of this is your fault."

Leyla took more than her fair share of the blame for their marriage problems, and while it looked like they might be back on track, Bernice accidentally revealed the kiss later in conversation with Leyla.

"That kiss was absolutely meaningless. He just launched his lips at me and I knew there was nothing romantic, it was just a silly impulsive thing that meant absolutely nothing," Bernice told Leyla.

"I'm just so glad it's managed to work out in the end."

Leyla covered her obvious shock and later chose not to confront Liam over the kiss. But will she be able to forgive his betrayal?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
