Emmerdale trouble for Ethan and Marcus as their rift widens

 Can they sort things out?

Emmerdale couple Ethan Anderson and Marcus Dean remain on rocky ground tonight (August 22) following their recent row.

The pair's relationship had been going well, but things turned sour last week when they had a petty row over Marcus's job as an electrician.

When Marcus carried out some repair work at the church for Ethan's father Charles, he was offended when they both assumed that he was doing it as a favour.

Marcus made it clear that he expected to be paid, leaving Ethan and Charles put out.

In Monday's episode, there's a bad atmosphere at Tall Trees Cottage as the argument remains unresolved.

Ethan and Marcus's housemate Nate Robinson feels awkward about the tensions and looks for a way to get out of the house for a while.

Ethan's sister Naomi, who has only just moved in, also soon finds herself in the middle of the row.

When Ethan and Marcus try to talk about the situation, more harsh words are exchanged and it seems that they've only managed to make matters worse.

Ethan gets some time alone with Naomi and opens up to her about how he's feeling, but is there any way that he and Marcus can work things out?

Earlier this year, Emile John – who plays Ethan – predicted that his character's relationship with Marcus has the potential to be a lasting one.

He said: "They've got a nice thing going on. Ethan's dad Charles is obviously quite unpredictable but it's all coming from a good place. Charles really likes Marcus.

"You can see there's genuine affection there between Ethan and Marcus and they do really care for one another. Ethan up until now has had the worst luck when it comes to guys! It's lovely to see that he has started to build a true connection with someone, at long last.

"They both like each other on an equal level."

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV. The show also streams on the ITV Hub.
