Neighbours lines up another shocking return for show finale

It's a bonza bonanza of cameos.

Neighbours is bringing back so many former cast members to celebrate the Australian soap for its fast-approaching final episodes, saying goodbye in style after 37 years on air.

Now it's been revealed that the legendary Madge Bishop, played by Anne Charleston, will be appearing in the grand finale, despite the character dying in 2001.

Of course, death hasn't stopped Madge before, and she appeared as a figment of Harold's imagination in 2015 for the soap's 30th anniversary.

Will the soap play the game card? Will she be a ghost? An immortal time-traveller who travels around on a Billabong surfboard? You've only got a few days to wait and see.

Neighbours' David and Aaron bedroom scene "cut short" on UK broadcast

Over the weekend, the soap's official Twitter account revealed another seven returning cast members for the final, including Margot Robbie and Delta Goodrem, who got their starts on Ramsay Street before becoming Hollywood and music megastars, respectively.

Natalie Imbruglia and Holly Valance have reportedly recorded cameo clips, too.

Neighbours is coming to an end after 37 years, after Channel 5 pulled funding for the soap and another UK broadcaster didn't choose to pick it up.

It rates strongly with UK viewers but now only airs to a small audience on a digital channel in its home country – although the finale will be simulcast on Channel 10 in Australia.

11 huge Neighbours spoilers for the show's final week

Defending Channel 5's decision, Stefan Dennis, who plays Paul Robinson, said: "It's just an economic decision, and in business, that's what happens. That happens in business every single day.

"If a show can't get the income for the outgoings, then of course, no business is going to hang onto that. It doesn't matter how sentimental.

"I think both Channel 5 and [Australian network] Channel 10 really did hang on for absolutely as long as they could. Channel 5 was clutching it by the fingernails by the end. They were incredibly upset."

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. The series finale will air in the UK on July 29 at 9pm on Channel 5.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play. The series finale will air in Australia on July 28 at 7.30pm, simulcast on 10 and 10 Peach.
