Neighbours stars bid goodbye at the British Soap Awards

It's closing the curtain after nearly four decades this August.

Neighbours legends Ian Smith and Jackie Woodburne stopped by the British Soap Awards for the final time tonight (June 11).

This summer marks the end of Ramsey Street's 37-year reign on our screens, after Channel 5 decided to remove the show from its schedule, but it'll always have a place in the hearts of the UK public.

Highlighting the soap's legacy, presenter Phillip Schofield announced infront of a packed-out crowd: "Yesterday, filming wrapped up on the last-ever episode of Neighbours.

"Since 1985, it's given us iconic moments, introduced the poms to life Down Under and discovered some major stars, so, we couldn't let the most famous street in the Southern Hemisphere go without one last trip down memory lane."

Beaming in from Australia behind him, the Harold Bishop and Susan Kennedy portrayers then jointly shared: "British Soap Awards, good day from Down Under! For 37 years, despite being on the other side of the world from one another, you soap fans in the UK have very much been a part of our special community here in Erinsborough.

"Neighbours has meant the world to me," continued Woodburne, "for 28 years I've come here every day to do the thing that I love with people who have become family, and I hope along the way, we've become a part of your family too!"

Cue the Best Of reel, with cameos from the likes of Kylie Minogue's Charlene Robinson and Guy Pearce's Mike Young.
