Neighbours' Rodwell family make a big decision after upsetting Hendrix news

Can they stay on Ramsay Street in the face of Hendrix's illness?

Neighbours' newest residents will have to make a huge decision next week, after their arrival on Ramsay Street gets off to a difficult start when they hear bad news about their new neighbour, Hendrix Greyson.

Police sergeant Andrew Rodwell (Lloyd Will) and his wife Wendy (Candice Leask) first expressed interest in buying a new home on the street back in April and this week, they and their teenage daughter Sadie (Emerald Chan) make the big move to Number 26.

With the family aware that Sadie's involvement in starting the fire at Erinsborough High earlier this year might cause some tension with their new neighbours, they decide to host a moving-in barbecue.

Unfortunately, the gathering doesn't exactly go to plan and the Rodwells are soon left wondering whether they should pack up and leave after they receive the upsetting news that Hendrix (Ben Turland) is seriously ill, having been diagnosed with a lung condition called pulmonary fibrosis.

Hendrix now needs a lung transplant in order to survive, and, with the fire that Sadie and her friend Aubrey Laing (Etoile Little) started to blame for his condition, the Rodwells become very aware that their presence on the street could be hugely difficult for him.

However, the family aren't sure that they can afford to move for a second time, and are left with some soul-searching to do next week as they question their place on Ramsay Street.

Their new neighbours, Karl (Alan Fletcher) and Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne), sympathise with the Rodwells and their predicament, and so they decide to pay them a visit.

After receiving this olive branch from the Kennedys, the family decide that they want to stay and make things work with their new neighbours.

But will things work out for them, or will they come to regret their decision?

Ben Turland has spoken to  about Hendrix's emotional plot, saying that he feels "honoured to take it on" and that "it's been a good challenge".

"Because Sadie was one of the people who caused his sickness and she has just moved next door, he can't really escape it. Every time he sees them, it reminds him of his illness and what's happened to him," he said.

"It's a big battle in Hendrix's head to figure out how he's going to act – and if he can go on living his normal life with this sickness and the reminder of what has happened."

Neighbours airs these scenes on Monday, May 16 at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Tuesday, June 14 on 10 Peach (Australia).
