Kylie Minogue reflects on "emotional" return to Neighbours as Charlene
"Driving into Ramsay Street was quite something."
Former Neighbours icon Kylie Minogue has opened up about returning to Erinsborough ahead of the Australian soap's conclusion.
Kylie, who played Charlene Robinson for two years in the 1980s, confirmed that she would be reprising her popular role alongside her on-screen husband Jason Donovan earlier this year.
Now, as Neighbours prepares to bid farewell to fans after 37 years on air, Kylie has revealed just how "emotional" it was to return to the soap that arguably launched her career.
"It was lovely and emotional," she told Today Extra (via MailOnline). "Driving into Ramsay Street was quite something."
Neighbours star reflects on "heartbreaking" axe news
Sharing her reaction to being back on set, Kylie admitted that she was thinking: "Firstly, where's all that time gone? Secondly, everything looks exactly the same. Thirdly, Scott, Charlene, Jane, Harold – it all just came flooding back."
As for how Charlene and Scott will be featured in Neighbours' concluding episodes, Kylie is keeping tight-lipped for now. What she could say, however, was just how much reminiscing there was.
"There was a lot of talking about memories and going back in time," she added.
Neighbours boss reveals how he persuaded Kylie and Jason to return
Earlier this month, Neighbours' executive producer Jason Herbison revealed just how easy it had been to recruit Kylie and Jason for the show's final goodbye.
"Both Kylie and Jason needed very little persuading at all," he said. "They both appreciate the show and the special role that it has played in their careers.
"It's a lovely show of respect to Neighbours, and I was thrilled when they said yes. It didn't feel right to end the show without them."
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play.
